Suupraktiikassa tarkastellaan kielen, huulien ja leukojen tuottamaa liikettä. Liikkeet riisutaan niiden merkityksistä ja huomio siirretään anatomiaan ja liikkeiden hienomotoriikkaan. Liikkeeseen vaikuttaa olennaisesti suun sisällä muodostuva ja siirtyvä sylki sekä suussa sisään ja ulos kulkeva ilma.
Praktiikassa toisen kasvoja peilataan niin, että ilmeiden sijaan keskitytään kasvojen materiaalisuuteen ja kasvojen liikkeiden laatuun. Tämä synnyttää etäisyyden kasvojen ilmaisuun ja viesteihin ja paljastaa niistä samalla uusia puolia.
Praktiikan ehdottama tapa olla ja toimia suun kautta tuottaa erityistä kehollisuutta, jonka voi nähdä hengityksen myötä yhdistyvän muihin elollisiin muotoihin. Ihminen voi hetken näyttäytyä vieraana ja elämän peruselementteihin pelkistyneenä.
Elias Girod työskentelee yhdessä Jan Nybergin ja Tuuli Vahtolan kanssa Kutomon residenssissä helmikuussa Suupraktiikan äärellä. Residenssijakson päätteeksi tekijät avaavat praktiikkaa Kutomolla nähtävässä presentaatiossa.

Elias Girod: Mouth Practice
Mouth Practice examines the movement that the tongue, the lips, and the jaw produce. The movement is stripped down from its meaning and the attention is relocated into anatomy and to the fine motor skills of movement. The movement happens in connection to saliva created in the mouth and air circulating in and out of the mouth.
In the practice the face is mirrored in a way that frees one to concentrate in the materiality of the face and the quality of the movement. This develops a certain distance to facial expression and information, and reveals new aspects of them.
The practice proposes a way of being and operating through the mouth which, by its action of breathing, connects to other forms of life. For a short moment human can appear unfamiliar and reduced to the core functions of living.
Elias Girod together with Jan Nyberg and Tuuli Vahtola work in Kutomo residency in February on the Mouth Practice. At the end of the two-week residency the artists will share their work and practice in an open presentation.
