Heli Meklin: Move the way you like because I love the way you move ENSI-ILTA!

Move the way you like because I love the way you move -teoksessa lähestytään ranskalaisen Ludovic Kerfendalin kehollisuuteen liittyviä kokemuksia, pelkoja ja intohimoja, sekä tanssimiseen kohdistuvia ennakko-oletuksia.

Teokset In Your Mind ja Move the way you like because I love the way you move kuuluvat koreografi Heli Meklinin projektiin, jossa hän tarkastelee elämän prosesseja taiteen kontekstissa. Hiekkaranta on helsinkiläinen ammattitanssija.

Heli Meklin: Move the way you like because I love the way you move PREMIERE!

Move the way you like because I love the way you move touches upon Frenchman Ludovic Kerfendal’s experiences, fears and passions of physicality and his expectations of dance. Heli Meklin assists Kerfendal to encounter different situations of movement by interviewing, commanding and living the part with him. The piece includes fast-paced dialogue and music from Sibelius to gay pop. Sometimes sentimental, but always entertaining, the spectator is allowed to get to know Kerfendal’s character in all its humor and vulnerability, sharing an opportunity to relate to the diverse experiences of being human and corporal.

In Your Mind and Move the way you like because I love the way you move, belong to a long term project of Heli Meklin, where she investigates processes of life in the context of art. She meets different people in order to learn what intrigues, excites or frighten them in realms of dance, corporality, body and movement. Based on these encounters she creates unique performances for each collaborator. In the performances In Your Mind and Move the way you like because I love the way you move, the performers are Finn Anne Hiekkaranta and Frenchman Ludovic Kerfendal. Hiekkaranta is a professional dancer, while Kerfendal is “not a dancer of any kind” and wants that to be made clear as soon as possible. The two works are independent but they compliment each other and meet in unexpected ways. Themes such as bodily ideals based on culture, gender or age, and the action of breaking the habitual are present in both works.
