Marja Ahti aloittaa yhdessä työryhmänsä, Tashi Iwaokan ja Minna Koskenlahden kanssa uuden teoksen, Cricket Poems, työstämistä Nykytaidetila Kutomon residenssissä elokuussa. Teos ammentaa sirkkojen maailmasta – kehon, äänen, hankauksen, resonanssin ja vuorovaikutuksen ulottuvuksista.
Runoudessa sirkat ovat yleinen aihe ja motiivi, jolloin sirkkoihin heijastuu niin hetkellisyyden assosiaatiot, kuin vuodenaikojen ja vuorokauden rytmitys sekä kaiken elollisen syklisyys. Cricket Poems esitys syleilee äänitaiteen, kokeellisen musiikin, performanssin ja tanssin ajattelutapoja ja muotoja. Teoksessa esiintyjät luovat äänten ja liikkeiden sävellyksen, joka yhdistää soivia jokapäiväisiä esineita ja materiaaleja, perkussioita ja kenttä-äänityksiä.
Residenssin päätteeksi työryhmä jakaa työstämäänsä materiaalia ja prosessia yleisölle avoimessa, maksuttomassa tapahtumassa Nykytaidetila Kutomolla Turun Taiteiden yönä 14.8.2025.

Marja Ahti on Turussa asuva äänitaiteilija, joka työskentelee sävellyksen, installaation ja esitystaiteen parissa. Hän etsii tiloja ja tilanteita, jossa äänet alkavat keskustella keskenään, peilautua, sulautua ja muuntautua. Tashi Iwaoka on turkulainen performanssitaiteilija, liikkuja ja Butohin harjoittaja. Iwaoka on saanut syviä vaikutteita budosta, japanilaisista taistelulajeista ja hän pyrkii löytämään ihmisen ilmaisun ja yhteyden ytimen suhteessa siitä oppimiinsa taitoihin. Marja Ahti and working group: Cricket Poems
Marja Ahti and working group, Tashi Iwaoka and Minna Koskenlahti, begin the process of their new work, Cricket Poems, in a residency at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo during the first two weeks of August. The work draws inspiration from the world of crickets – the sound produced by their bodies, friction, resonance, and the intangible yet audible dimensions of interaction.
As a common motif in poetry, crickets invite associations of impermanence, circadian rhythms, the changing of the seasons, and the cyclical nature of all life. The performance, Cricket Poems, embraces ideas and methods from sound art, experimental music, performance, and dance. In the piece, the performers create a composition of sound and movement that combines sounding everyday objects and materials, percussion, and field recordings.
At the end of the residency the working group will share the process and the material they have been working on at a free event open to the public at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo on Turku Night of the Arts, 14.8.2025.

Marja Ahti is a Turku-based sound artist working in composition, installation, and cross-disciplinary performance. Ahti’s work seeks out a space where seemingly disparate sounds start to communicate, mirror each other, merge, and transform. Her music is based on slowly mutating textures and harmonies, progressing according to a poetic logic, combining sounds found in everyday life, electronic sounds, and acoustic instruments. marjaahti.com
Tashi Iwaoka is a Turku-based performance artist, mover, and Butoh practitioner. Iwaoka is deeply influenced by Budo, Japanese martial arts, and working on finding the nucleus of human expression and connection, in relation to the movement skills he has learnt. One of the central driving forces for this is the attempt to fuse his oriental roots and Western perspectives to form a more proper view on being a human in this world. tashiwaoka.org
Minna Koskenlahti is a percussion player currently living in Helsinki. With her background in Nordic folk music, Koskenlahti has a melodic approach to percussion instruments.
