Orfee Schuijtin uuden Thing-Power -teoksen presentaatio avaa Kutomon syyskauden 2019 Turun Taiteiden yönä! Thing-Power on tanssiteos kolmelle tanssijalle sekä valikoimalle esineitä ja asioita. Schuijt on työryhmineen työskennellyt Kutomon residenssissä elokuun alusta alkaen.
Thing-Power on kahteen osaan jakautuva prosessi, jonka ensimmäisessä, kuukauden mittaisessa vaiheessa työryhmän jäsenet keskittyvät yksilölliseen tutkimukseen tietyn esineen kanssa. Taiteilijat elävät esineen kanssa päivästä toiseen ja suorittavat sarjan pieniä tehtäviä sitoutuen ja dokumentoiden omaa prosessiaan. Toisessa vaiheessa työryhmä kokoontuu yhteen ja työstää esitystä yhdessä näiden esineiden kanssa.
Teos pohjautuu kiinnostukseen selvittää asian, aineen ja eroottisen käsitteitä, ja miten nämä voisivat tulla yhteen tanssiteoksessa. Miten esiintyjät voisivat lähestyä esineitä tai asioita ruumiillisesti ja jatkaa näitä kohtaamisia värähtelevinä, itsenäisinä tansseina? Kuka sommittelee kenet? Ja miten eri ulottuvuudet elävät rinnakkain näyttämöllä?
Thing-Power syntyy yhteistyössä koreografi-tanssija Orfee Schuijtin, kuvataiteilija Eirik Blekesaunen, säveltäjä Kim Myhrin sekä tanssijoiden Ingrid Haakstadin ja Soile Voiman kanssa.

Orfee Schuijt: Thing-Power
The presentation of Orfee Schuijt’s new piece Thing-Power opens the autumn season 2019 of Kutomo at the Turku Night of the Arts! Thing-Power is a dance performance for three dancers and a collection of objects and things. The working group has been processing the work in Kutomo’s residency since the beginning of August.
The piece is thought as a two-step process: the first part consists of a month of individual research where each participant is handed a specific object. The participants will live day to day with their object, and will exercise a series of small tasks to bond and document their process. For the second part, the participants will gather with their objects, and work together in a creative process to construct a performance.
Thing-Power is based on an interest to investigate the concepts of thing, matter and the erotic and how they could meet in a dance performance. How could the performers approach objects or things physically and continue this encounter into resonating, independent dances? Who composes whom? And how do all these different dimensions can cohabit on stage?
Thing-Power is a collaboration between choreographer and dancer Orfee Schuijt, visual artist Eirik Blekesaune, composer Kim Myhr, and dancers Ingrid Haakstad and Soile Voima.
