Perinteisen ihmiselon keskellä kaksi urheilullisen pojan trooppia löytävät keinon päästä käsiksi SLIT-esityksen herkkään rytmiin. Esiintyjät koskettavat äänihuuliaan työntämällä kätensä toistensa kurkkuihin. Heidän sormensa joutuvat kurkun tiukkaan otteeseen.
Esiintyjien tuottamat äänet, olivat ne sitten yksinkertaista laulua, humisevaa veisua tai iloista ja lämmintä mörinää, tuottavat koodaamattomuuden, haavoittuvuuden ja outouden kieltä. Esiintyjät heijastelevat yleisölle sisäisiä ja ulkoisia minuuksia. Muuttuvan äänimaailman ja asentojen syklien kautta he pyrkivät vaikuttamaan ympärillä oleviin ihmisiin ja tilaan.
SLIT-teoksen esiintyjät ovat Teo Ala-Ruona ja Artor Jesus Inkerö. Teoksen koreografia on luotu yhteistyössä Eve Staintonin kanssa. Äänisuunnittelusta vastaa Minna Koivisto ja ääniassistenttina toimii Juulia Haverinen. Puvustus on Ervin Latimerin käsialaa.
Teos ensiesitettiin Live Works -tapahtumassa Centrale Fiessä Drossa Italiassa kesäkuussa 2023. Turun Taiteiden yönä elokuussa 2023 SLIT nähdään osana Nykytaidetila Kutomon ohjelmistoa.

Teo Ala-Ruona on performanssitaiteilija, jonka teoksia on esitetty muun muassa Kiasma-teatterissa, HAMissa ja Baltic Circle -festivaalilla Helsingissä, Institute of Contemporary Arts -galleriassa Lontoossa sekä VEGA|ARTS -konserttisalissa Kööpenhaminassa. Vastikään hän oli kutsutaiteilijana FABRIKKEN for Kunst og Designin taiteilijaresidenssissä Kööpenhaminassa. Ala-Ruonan esitykset keskittyvät spekulatiiviseen fiktioon yhdistäen kehollisen kerronnan muotoja, liikettä ja erilaisia äänenkäytön tekniikoita.
Artor Jesus Inkerö on kuvataiteilija, jonka teoksia on ollut esillä New Museumissa New Yorkissa, NOON Projects -galleriassa Los Angelesissa, Nykytaiteen museo Kiasmassa Helsingissä ja Kunsthal Charlottenborgissa Kööpenhaminassa. Hän on osallistunut taiteilijaresidensseihin muun muassa Somerset Housessa Lontoossa ja Rijksakademie van beeldende kunstenissa Amsterdamissa. Inkerön taiteellisen toiminnan keskiössä on queer-identiteettiin ja yhteenkuuluvuuteen liittyvät aiheet, joita hän on työstänyt näyttelyissään ja performansseissaan sekä julkisen taiteen ja projektien keinoin.
Ehkä-tuotannon toiminnassa noudatetaan turvallisemman tilan ohjeistusta. Valitettavasti Nykytaidetila Kutomon tilat eivät ole esteettömät. Rakennuksessa on portaita, eikä siellä ole esteetöntä wc-tilaa.
Teo Ala-Ruona and Artor Jesus Inkerö: SLIT
Amidst the traditional human condition, two athletic boy tropes find a way to tap into a tender beat of a performance called SLIT. As they touch each other’s vocal chords by pushing their hands down their throats, the fingers are greeted with the grasp of the throat, unable to produce a sound.
Whether it be a plain song, a humming chant, a joyous warm expression, the performers produce a language of uncodedness, of vulnerability, of strangeness – a language of mirroring inner and outer selves for their audience. Cycling through soundscapes and shifting postures, they attempt to manipulate their surrounding people and space.
SLIT is performed by Teo Ala-Ruona and Artor Jesus Inkerö. The work is choreographed in collaboration with Eve Stainton. The sound design is made by Minna Koivisto and a sound assistant Juulia Haverinen. The costume design is made by Ervin Latimer.
The piece premiered as a part of the Live Works event at Centrale Fies in Dro, Italy in June 2023. In August during the Night of the Arts in Turku SLIT is performed at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo.

Teo Ala-Ruona is a performance artist whose work has been shown in Kiasma Theatre, HAM Helsinki Art Museum and Baltic Circle festival in Helsinki, Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, and VEGA|ARTS in Copenhagen among other venues. Recently he participated in an artist residency FABRIKKEN for Kunst og Design in Copenhagen. Ala-Ruona’s work focuses on speculative fiction in forms of performances that combine somatofictional practices, movement and various vocal techniques.
Artor Jesus Inkerö is a visual artist whose works have been exhibited in New Museum in New York, NOON Projects in Los Angeles, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki, and Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen. They have participated in artist residencies, such as the Somerset House in London and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. In their art practice, Inkerö focuses on topics of queer identity and belonging through exhibitions, performances, public art works and projects.
Ehkä-production follows safer space guidelines. Unfortunately, the space at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo is not fully accessible; there are stairs and there are no accessible toilets at the venue.
