In perpetual blooming, despite the gods kanavoi ooppera-alkusoiton olemuksellista luonnetta – hetkeä ennen sanaa, sen idullisessa, puhkeamassa olevassa muodossa.
Esitys ammentaa inspiraationsa teksteistä, kuten Maria Magdaleenan evankeliumin kuudesta kadonneesta aloitussivusta sekä muinaisesta runosta The Thunder, Perfect Mind, jossa tuntematon kirjoittaja puhuu moninaisuuksien olennosta: hän on sekä hiljaisuus että ääni. Hän on portto ja pyhä nainen, morsian ja sulhanen. Hän on hän (she), herra (the lord) ja synnin juuri.
Tanssijan kehosta tulee ajan halki kulkeneen naisen paradoksien kantaja ja asuttaja. Henkiolento, mukanaan äänettömyys, joka on yhtä aikaa ikiaikainen ja tässä hetkessä läsnä. Elinvoima virtaa läpi, muuttaa muotoaan taukoamatta ja elpyy kerta toisensa jälkeen, hellittämättä.

Maya Oliva (they/she) on italialainen koreografi ja tanssija, joka asuu tällä hetkellä Helsingissä. Hän on kiinnostunut tansseista, jotka avaavat kanavan monikerroksisille, purkautuville ja ristiriitaisille tunteille, jotka koetaan dramaattisesti, herkästi, voimakkaasti, raa’asti tai kaikilla näillä tavoilla yhtä aikaa. Maya tutkii parhaillaan hidastettua liikettä ja erilaisten liikerytmien ajallisuuden leikkiä keinona venyttää ja avata aikaa, kiinnittäen huomiota yksityiskohtien tiheyteen, hedelmällisyyteen ja monimutkaisuuteen.

Atte Elias Kantonen (he/him) on äänitaiteilija, joka työskentelee monipuolisesti kokeellisen musiikin ja esittävän taiteen parissa. Taiteellisessa työskentelyssään Kantonen pyrkii rakentamaan äänellisiä dioraamoja, joissa rauhallinen ja ristiriitainen kietoutuvat jatkuvasti toisiinsa paljastaen vilauksen toisesta.

Meri Craig (she/they) on pukusuunnittelija, joka on erityisen kiinnostunut esittävistä taiteista, etenkin tanssista. Työssään Craig keskittyy pukujen ja (esiintyvän) kehon väliseen vuorovaikutukseen ja on tutkinut esteettömyyttä esitysten luomisen kontekstissa. Craigilla on sekä maisterin että kandidaatin tutkinto pukusuunnittelusta.

Saana Volanen (they/she) on valosuunnittelija ja lavastaja, joka työskentelee esittävän taiteen ja mediataiteen aloilla. Hänellä on valosuunnittelun maisterintutkinto Taideyliopistosta ja lavastuksen kandidaatintutkinto Aalto-yliopistosta. Volanen käyttää usein sanoja kuten maisema ja tilataju.
Festivaalilla noudatetaan Ehkä-tuotannon turvallisemman tilan ohjeistusta. Valitettavasti Nykytaidetila Kutomon tilat eivät ole esteettömät: rakennuksessa on portaita eikä siellä ole esteetöntä wc-tilaa.
Spring Roll: Maya Oliva: In perpetual blooming, despite the gods
In perpetual blooming, despite the gods is a study on the channelling of the energetic charge of an operatic prelude. A fascination with this vehicle and its potential: the moment before the word, in its germinal state, of blooming.
The performance is inspired by texts such as the first six missing pages of the Gospel according to Mary Magdalene, or the ancient poem The Thunder, Perfect Mind, where the unknown writer claims a being of multiplicities: being the silence and the loudness. Being the whore and the holy woman, the bride and the groom. Being “she, the lord” and, at the same time, the root of sin.
In the suspended temporal space of the performance, the dancer’s body becomes the conduit and container of a woman catapulted through time. Inhabiting the body of paradoxes, she arrives as a spirit, carrying within herself a lack of voice that is at once age-old and present. A vital force advancing through, continuously morphing, transforming, relentlessly blooming, despite adversity.

Maya Oliva (they/she) is an Italian choreographer and dancer currently based in Helsinki. They are interested in dances that create a channel toward multilayered, bursting, dissonant emotions, felt dramatically, sensitively, intensely, rawly, or all at once. Maya is currently researching slow motion and play of different movement rhythm temporalities as a way of stretching and pulling time open, inviting attention to the density, fertility, and complexity of details.

Atte Elias Kantonen (he/him) is a sound labourer working diversely with experimental music and performing arts. Within his practice, Kantonen aims to build sonorous dioramas, where the serene and the discordant constantly fold in on themselves, revealing a sliver of the other.

Meri Craig (she/they) is a costume designer with a keen interest in performing arts, particularly dance. In her work, Craig focuses on the collaborative work between costume and the (performing) body, and has studied accessibility in the context of performance making. Craig holds both an MA and a BA degree in costume design.

Saana Volanen (they/she) is a lighting designer and a scenographer who works in the fields of performing arts and media art. They hold a master’s degree in lighting design from Uniarts Helsinki and a bachelor’s degree in scenography from Aalto University. Volanen often works with words like landscape and space-sensitivity.
The festival follows Ehkä-production’s safer space guidelines. Unfortunately, the space at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo is not fully accessible: there are stairs, and no accessible toilets at the venue.
