Prima Materia on mystinen kirja, joka on kirjoitettu bardin lausuttavaksi. Bardi matkustaa ympäri maailmaa lausumassa tuonpuoleisia viestejä, jotka on kanavoitu bardin äänen kautta, luolamaisen kurkun muuttuessa hämäräperäiseksi torveksi. Tämä on eräänlainen taikashow – hellä katsaus voimakkaaseen virtaukseen, joka operoi todellisuutta kulissien takaa. Se kysyy meiltä: milloin viimeksi kaksi villiä ideaa valtasi sinut yhtä aikaa? Järjestäytyneen rikollisuuden ripustamat purppurat verhot liikkuvat lämpenevissä tuulissa, kuutamon takavalottamina.
Niko Hallikaisen Prima Materia kantaesitettiin syyskuussa 2025 1646 – Experimental Art Spacessa Haagissa. Toukokuussa 2026 esitys nähdään Nykytaidetila Kutomolla osana Ehkä-tuotannon Spring Roll 2026 -festivaalin ohjelmaa.

Spring Roll: Niko Hallikainen: Prima Materia
Prima Materia is a mystical book written to be performed by a bard. The bard travels around the world citing otherworldly messages that were channeled through the bard’s voice, a caved throat transformed into a shifty horn. This is sort of a magic show – a tender look into a powerful undercurrent that operates reality from behind. It asks of us: when’s the last time you were overwhelmed by two big ideas at once? Purple curtains, hung by organized crime, move in the warming winds, backlit by moonlighting.
Niko Hallikainen’s Prima Materia premiered at 1646 – Experimental Art Space in The Hague in September 2025. In May 2026, the performance is presented at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo as part of the Ehkä-production’s Spring Roll 2026 festival.

Niko Hallikainen is a performance poet and novelist born and based in Helsinki. His performance work has been presented in the Performa Biennial in New York, Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art, Konträr in Stockholm, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki.
