Osana Spring Roll 2026 -festivaalia Titanik-galleriassa järjestetään keskustelutilaisuus sekä konsertti, jotka linkittyvät galleriassa esillä olevaan Patricia Carolinan näyttelyyn The River Carries Thorns. Tapahtuma alkaa näyttelyn teemoihin pureutuvalla keskustelulla näyttelytilassa ja aiheeseen syvennytään entistä pidemmälle sitä seuraavan konsertin myötä.
Keskustelu: yhdessä taiteilijan kanssa syvennämme näyttelyä, joka tutkii perhesiteitä, teollista historiaa ja siirtolaisuutta, jota leimaa joen katoaminen.
Konsertti: corre el agua y no se ve [vesi virtaa eikä sitä näy] on Luis Fernando Amayan sovittama ja esittämä konsertti, joka tarjoaa vilahduksia muuttuvan maiseman eri äänien – ihmisten ja ei-ihmisten – monimutkaisista suhteista. Esitys välittää näyttelyn teemoja yhdistelemällä tarinankerrontaa, perinnemusiikkia ja kokeellista live-elektroniikkaa.
Konsertti pohjautuu Canto Cardenche -menetelmään, joka on peräisin La Lagunan kaivosalueelta Pohjois-Meksikosta. Genren nimi tulee cardenche-kaktuksesta, jonka piikit aiheuttavat kipua niiden lävistäessä ihon – mutta kipu on vielä pahempaa, kun ne poistetaan.

Meksikolaissyntyinen Patricia Carolina on Oslossa asuva taiteilija ja taidejärjestäjä. Hän työskentelee pääasiassa videoteosten, tekstin ja tekstiilien parissa, kutoen yhteen ajatuksia kielestä, kehityksestä ja menetyksestä. Hänen teoksissaan toistuvat usein kotimaiset ja teolliset maisemat sekä veren ja veden virtaukset. Carolina on valmistunut Islannin taideyliopistosta (BA 2019) ja Kunsthøgskolen i Oslosta (MFA 2022). Hän on aktiivinen jäsen Verdensrommet-verkostossa, joka edistää yhteistyötä, jakaa työkaluja ja ajaa EU:n ja ETA:n ulkopuolisten taiteilijoiden parempia työoloja Norjassa.
Aguascalientesissa, Meksikossa syntynyt Luis Fernando Amaya on Oslossa asuva säveltäjä ja lyömäsoittaja. Hänen teoksissaan esiintyvät usein aiheet kuten kollektiivinen muisti sekä ihmisten ja
ei-ihmisten (kuten kasvien, eläinten tai ympäristöjen) väliset suhteet. Hän opiskeli sävellystä ja musiikkiteoriaa Centro de Investigación y Estudios Musicalesissa (CIEM) ja on väitellyt sävellyksen ja musiikkiteknologian tohtoriksi Northwesternin yliopistosta.

Spring Roll: Titanik Gallery: Patricia Carolina and Luis Fernando Amaya: corre el agua y no se ve [water runs and cannot be seen]
For the Spring Roll 2026, Titanik Gallery hosts a conversation and concert around Patricia Carolina’s exhibition: The River Carries Thorns.
The event will start with a conversation at the exhibition space that delves into the exhibition, followed by a concert that mediates this journey further.
The talk: together with the artist, we take a deeper look into the exhibition, which explores family bonds, industrial histories, and displacement crossed by the loss of a river.
The concert: corre el agua y no se ve [water runs and cannot be seen] is a concert arranged and performed by Luis Fernando Amaya that offers glimpses into the intricate relationships between different voices—human and nonhuman—in a changing landscape. The performance mediates themes from the exhibition, blending storytelling, traditional music, and experimental live electronics.
The concert departs from the methods in Canto Cardenche, an a cappella singing tradition from the mining region of La Laguna in northern México. The genre takes its name from the cardenche cactus, whose spines cause pain when they pierce the skin—but hurt even more when they are removed.

Born in Mexico, Patricia Carolina is an artist and art organizer based in Oslo. She works primarily
with video-installation, text, and textile, weaving together ideas on language, progress and loss. Her
work often follows domestic and industrial landscapes, flows of blood and water. Carolina graduated from the Iceland University of the Arts (BA 2019), and Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo (MFA 2022) and is an active member of Verdensrommet, a network that promotes collaboration, shares tools and advocates for better working conditions for non-EU/EEA artists in Norway.
Born in Aguascalientes, México, Luis Fernando Amaya is a composer and percussionist based in Oslo. Topics such as collective memory and the relationship between humans and non-humans (such as plants, animals, or environments) are commonly present in his work. He studied composition and music theory at the Centro de Investigación y Estudios Musicales (CIEM) and holds a Ph.D. in composition and music technology from Northwestern University.
The festival follows Ehkä-production’s safer space guidelines.
