Sebastian López-Lehdon uusi teos Light tutkii nostamisen ja nostetuksi tulemisen ruumiillisuutta sekä läsnäolon kokemusta transsendentaalia kohti kurkottamisessa. López-Lehdolle transsendentaali merkitsee niin sanottua näkymätöntä sekä ihmisen ulkopuolisia kokonaisuuksia kuten ”maailma”, ”kaikkeus”, ”luonto” ja Jumala. Nostamisen ja laskemisen tematiikan kautta López-Lehto pyrkii lähestymään sellaista uskonnollista (eli transsendentaalin kurkottavaa) ruumiillisuutta, joka ei ole kehokielteinen. Ylös mentäessä on pudottava alas.
Työskentelyn lähtökohtana toimivat erilaiset subjektiivisuuden praktiikat, joissa on jonkinlainen itsestä luopumisen ja kaikkeuteen yhdistymisen juonne, esimerkiksi Continuum, Jooga nidra ja muut kontemplatiivisen praktiikan metodit. Teos tutkii itsestä luopumisen praktiikoiden liikutetuksi tulemisen käytänteitä kehollisina vastineina uskonnolliselle johdatukselle, tietynlaiselle syrjään vetäytymiselle Jumalan tieltä. Yhtenä referenssinä läsnäolon ja poissaolon suhteesta toimii filosofi Simone Weilin tekstikokoelma Painovoima ja armo (1942).
Esitys kysyy, minkälainen mieli syrjään vetäytymisellä – eräänlaisella minän kuolemalla – on? Miksi tuottaa sellaista subjektiivisuutta, joka tuhoaa itsensä? Millaista on johdatuksen tanssi?
Teos saa ensi-iltansa Kutomolla marraskuussa 2018 osana Ehkä-tuotannon kymmenettä XS-festivaalia.

XS Vol.10: Sebastian López-Lehto: Light
The new work by Sebastian López-Lehto, Light examines the corporality of lifting and being lifted and the experience of presence in reaching out towards the transcendental. López-Lehto sees transcendental as so-called invisible, and as entities exterior to humans such as “world”, “universe”, “nature” and God. Through the themes of lifting and descending López-Lehto aims at approaching a kind of religious (ergo reaching towards transcendental) corporality that is not body negative. When going up you must fall down.
Different practices of subjectivity, which imply some kind of abandonment of the self and merging into universe such as Continuum, Yoga nidra, and other methods of contemplative practice, form the point of departure for López-Lehto’s choreographical process. Light explores the conventions of being moved through different contemplative practices as bodily counterparts for religious guidance. Philosopher Simone Weil’s compilation of texts Gravity and Grace (1942) works as one point of reference for the work.
The performance asks what sort of mind withdrawing aside – kind of death of the self – has? Why to produce such subjectivity that destroys itself? What is the dance of guidance?
Light will premiere at Kutomo as part of the Ehkä-production’s tenth XS festival in November 2018.
