Koreografi Jenni-Elina von Baghin esityksessä As time goes by traaginen ja koominen puristuvat yhteen toistensa vastakohtina. Esitys tarkastelee aikaa monitahoisena kysymyksenä sekä tuo samalla näkyväksi ihmiskehon monikerroksellisuuden ja sen vuorovaikutuksellisuuden ympäristönsä kanssa.
Von Baghin uusi teos antautuu ajan ruumiilliselle, ruumiittomalle ja syvästi kokemukselliselle ulottuvuudelle. Tiiviin filosofinen lähtökohta sekä tunne aikamme haasteellisuudesta nostavat esiin myös leikin ja kepeyden.
As time goes by käyttää filosofisena pohjanaan muun muassa Elisabeth Groszin käsitettä extramaterial teoksesta The Incorporeal (2017) kääntämällä sitä näyttämölliseksi kompositioksi. Esityksen tekoprosessi keskittyy ruumiillisen ja materiaalisen tulemisen virtuaalisiin ja ruumiittomiin puoliin, jotka ovat välttämättömiä kaikessa tulevassa, materialisoituvassa, muuntuvassa tai toteutuvassa.
Von Baghin työryhmä on erityisen kiinnostunut ei-inhimillisen performatiivisuuden ja näyttämöllisen suunnittelun tarkastelusta nykyesityksen kontekstissa. As time goes by juhlistaa sekä inhimillisten että ei-inhimillisten kehojen epä-älyllistä voimaa ylittämällä subjektin eksistentiaalisen ulottuvuuden.
Teos kantaesitettiin Sivuaskel-festivaalilla Zodiak Stagella Helsingissä helmikuussa 2023. Maaliskuussa As time goes by nähdään Nykytaidetila Kutomon ohjelmistossa osana Spring Roll -festivaalia.

Jenni-Elina von Bagh: As time goes by
The starting point of the performance As time goes by, by choreographer Jenni-Elina von Bagh, is dense and philosophic, but the artistic outcome gives value to lightness and play. It sticks and stays with a sensation of troubled times and extrudes a vibration of joy.
In this performance the tragic and comic are pressed together as counterparts. While exposing multiple layers of the human body and its connectivity with its surroundings, the performance stretches towards the experience of time as a complex question.
As time goes by uses i.e. Elisabeth Grosz’s work The Incorporeal (2017) as a philosophical reference and resonates with the concept of extramaterial by translating it into scenic composition. Through this encountering the performance-making-process values the virtual and incorporeal aspects within bodily and material becoming – a necessary co-actant in anything to become, anything to get materialized anything to variate, or to get realized.
A continuing interest of this working group is to research other-than-human performativity and design in context of contemporary performance. As time goes by celebrates a non-intellectual force of both human and other-than-human bodies by exceeding the existential dimension of a subject.
As time goes by premiered at Zodiak Stage in Helsinki as part of the Side Step Festival in February 2023. In March the piece visits Contemporary Art Space Kutomo as part of the Spring Roll festival.

The festival follows Ehkä-production’s safer space guidelines. Unfortunately, the space at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo is not fully accessible; there are stairs and there are no accessible toilets at the venue.
