Thing Power on tanssiesitys kolmelle tanssijalle ja kokoelmalle esineitä ja asioita. Teoksessa kehot ja elottomat materiaalit ovat tasa-arvoisia koreografisia toimijoita. Monenlaisia muotoja, medioita ja tekstuureja työstävä esitys keskittyy inhimillisten ja ei-inhimillisten suhteiden aistillisuuteen. Asiat, äänet ja esiintyjät osallistuvat tanssiin luoden keskinäisiä yhteyksiä ja suuntautumisia. Miten esiintyjät voivat lähestyä esineitä tai asioita fyysisesti ja jatkaa tätä kohtaamista resonoiviin, itsenäisiin tansseihin?
Thing Power on pelikenttä, jossa asiat ja kehot ryhmittyvät kuvioihin muodostaen kitkaa niiden välille. Pienet, löydetyt esineet tai suuremmat veistokset toimivat tanssin ohjeina ja mittana. Tanssijat yrittävät parhaansa mukaan tulla esineiksi muokaten kehoaan esineiden eri muotoihin ja tekstuuriin. He näyttäytyvät asioina, joilla on aistit, ja tanssivat loputtomissa kategorioissa, minioopperoissa ja pienten asioiden tempossa.
Teoksen koreografia on syntynyt koreografi Orfee Schuijtin ja tanssijoiden Ingrid Haakstad ja Soile Voima, sekä lavastussuunnittelija Eirik Blekesaunen ja säveltäjä Kim Myhrin yhteistyönä. Thing Power sai ensi-iltansa RIMI/IMIR SceneKunstissa Stavangerissa marraskuussa 2020.

Orfee Schuijt syntyi ja kasvoi Ranskassa. Vuodesta 2012 lähtien hän on asunut ja työskennellyt Oslossa sekä kiertänyt maailmaa useiden eri tanssiryhmien kanssa. Schuijt on valmistunut Amsterdamin Teatterikorkeakoulusta ja Tukholman Taideyliopistosta. Schuijtin työlle on ominaista multimediallisuus, kuten elokuvan ja piirtämisen käyttö kiinteänä osana koreografiaa. Häntä kiinnostaa näkökulmilla leikkiminen ja elävien organismien, orgaanisen ja aistillisen sekä ei-ihmisen ja elottoman kohtaaminen. Hän on työskennellyt esimerkiksi Heine Avdalin ja Yukiko Shinozakin, Francesco Scavettan, Soile Voiman, Jenny Hvalin ja Eivind Seljesethin kanssa.
Festivaalilla noudatetaan Ehkä-tuotannon turvallisemman tilan ohjeistusta. Valitettavasti Nykytaidetila Kutomon tilat eivät ole esteettömät. Rakennuksessa on portaita, eikä siellä ole esteetöntä wc-tilaa.
Spring Roll: Orfee Schuijt: Thing Power
Thing Power is a dance performance for three dancers and a collection of objects and things. In this piece bodies and inanimate materials are recognized as equal choreographic forces; working with a multitude of forms, medias, and textures, the performance focuses on the sensual agency of human and non-human relationships. Things, sounds and performers all participate in a dance to create and understand their interconnections and orientations. How can the performers approach objects or things physically and continue this encounter into resonating, independent dances?
Thing Power is a playing field where things and bodies are grouped in constellations creating friction between them. The dancers use small found objects or larger sculptures as scores. They try their best to become things themselves, shaping their bodies to their objects’ various forms and textures. They present themselves as things with senses. Dancing in never-ending categories, in mini-operas with the tempo of tiny things.
The piece is choreographed by Orfee Schuijt in collaboration with the dancers Ingrid Haakstad and Soile Voima, set designer Eirik Blekesaune and composer Kim Myhr. Thing Power premiered at RIMI/IMIR SceneKunst in Stavanger in November 2020.
The performance is suitable for all ages.

Orfee Schuijt was born and raised in France. Since 2012, she has been based in Oslo, while she has toured the world with several different companies. She is a graduate of the Academie voor Theater en Dans in Amsterdam and Stockholm University of the Arts. A characteristic of Schuijt’s work is the extensive use of multimedia expressions such as film and drawing as an integral part of choreography. She is interested in playing with perspectives and the meeting between living organisms, the organic and sensory, and the non-human and non-living. She has also worked on performances with Heine Avdal and Yukiko Shinozaki, Francesco Scavetta, Soile Voima, Jenny Hval and Eivind Seljeseth.
The festival follows Ehkä-production’s safer space guidelines. Unfortunately, the space at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo is not fully accessible; there are stairs and there are no accessible toilets at the venue.
